Light In The Darkness Ministries, Inc. is a family ministry of the David Trawick family. When David and LaDonna were in their youth, both felt the call of God to the ministry. As each separately began to prepare for the work of the Lord, the burden to minister to Hispanic people became evident. After pastoring in the US for a total of 4 years, the Lord said, "It is time. Go!" Selling all that could be sold and giving away what remained, they left for San Luis Potosí, SLP, México in 1998. San Luis Potosí is a city of approximately 1.5 million people and is located in the heart of México in a state with the same name. It is almost 500 miles south of Laredo, TX. God gave the call and provided the means to fulfill that call. The first year and a half was spent learning the Spanish language and the Mexican culture. Each family member is active in the full time ministry. Tabitha and Lydia were 5 and 3, respectively, when the family moved to San Luis Potosí. They spe! ak Spanish like native Mexicans!!
In the first part of 2005, we were invited to Savannah, GA by Pastor Ryan Ralston. We were asked to pioneer a Spanish-speaking holiness church for the large and growing Hispanic population in Georgia. After much prayer, fasting and counsel with our board members, we felt it the will of God to do so. It was probably a harder decision to leave México and return to the US than it was to leave the US for México. We made the move in June of 2005. The Lord has blessed our labors here in Savannah. La Santa Iglesia de Dios was begun in July. It is our desire to reach the local Hispanic population and to begin to make outreach trips to their families in their respective countries.
The Trawicks are also available to hold Spanish revivals and special services. If you and your church would like to reach out to the Spanish speaking people, feel free to contact us.
While in San Luis Potosí, SLP, México, LITD Ministries was involved in the following works:
Iglesia de Santidad El Faro de Esperanza - Lighthouse of Hope Holiness Church Started in September of 2002, Lighthouse of Hope is an outreach to the families of the surrounding colonias. Our burden is to raise up a classical Pentecostal church that reaches the community, yet also fosters a World outreach. We have seen several come through the Lighthouse of Hope, but stability is needed.
Iglesia de Santidad El Faro de la Fe - Lighthouse of Faith Holiness Church December 24, 2003 was the first time for us to hold a service in the Rancho La Rinconada, a small rural village. The village has approximately 1,000 people and one Christian lady. She and her unsaved husband allowed us to hold services beside their humble home. Services were held in the open air. There is a great potential in this area.
La Hora de Los Niños - The Children's Hour The Children's Hour is the most physically taxing of all the ministries, yet it is truly the most fun! Children came for one hour to sing, color, and hear the Bible stories with Scripture memorization each week. We also had several mothers to attend. We have seen this class grow and decline and grow again. Almost all of the children have absolutly no church background. We have gained families into the church through this ministry.
Federal and State Prison Ministry Once a week we went to the Federal and State Prison to minister to the Mexican inmates. Often, we were the ones ministered to by the contagious joy and love of the inmates. Several of these inmates have really grown spiritually. Some have even begun to preach or lead prayer meetings on their own. The Trawick family also ministered to the American inmates in SLP. Permission was granted to visit the US inmates on behalf of the US Consulate. This was compassion ministry in which we delivered personal items and our girls colored and delivered pictures for the inmates. We were allowed to visit individually with any Americans who request a visit. It is amazing to see the changes in the lives of inmates.
